Need Guide for Caves in Dordogne

The British couple Rick Steves recommends in his book is not available for our September 2017 dates. Any recommendations?

You might consider Allo Philippe. We had him take us around in 2009. It was a very enjoyable and educational day. We saw and learned more than we expected.

Read the reviews on his website, but go to the most recent ones first, at the bottom of each of the kinds of reviews. Many things have changed about visiting the caves and other sites since we were there. Hopefully, there are still English tours available at the caves. Philippe will have the schedules for those.

The main things we saw were Lascaux II, Font de Gaume and Maison Forte de Reignac. There is much, much more to see and experience.

I found The Cave Painters to be a wonderful companion book for that region. The author explains the history of their discovery, the personalities involved, and the evolution of our understanding of them.

We used Allo Philippe in 2014 and also found him delightful, generous with his time, and full of interesting information.
