Need Go to Restaurants in Paris, please....

We are staying at the Hotel Ampere, in the 17th arrondissement and will be in Paris for 3 nights in late September. First time in Paris. We are looking for cozy, off the beaten path restaurants with great wine and even better food. Any suggestions.

It has been a while since I have been to Paris, but there and other places I have had the best luck looking at reviews on whatever site has the most activity (TripAdvisor, Yelp, etc) though they will have a tourist bent, then I wander by 3 or 4 prospects, as well as nearby places, look at menus and assume a smaller place with a decent crowd is a possibility. If something looks good, go for it.

You can check out the website Paris By Mouth, they have been reviewing restaurants for a few years now.

I have been to the two resturants below but not the rest of them. I hope my suggestions helps.

Creperie de Josselin excellent
67 Rue due Montparnasse

Cafe Med
77 Rue Saint Louis-en-l’le
nice place for lunch, small, good crepes
Not as good as Josselin, but a good place to go
if on the island and need a place for lunch

L’Auberge Café. It’s housed in a half-timbered building that dates back to around the time of King Henri IV (late 16th/early 17th century for those who prefer a time reference). — This was a restaurant that a RS tour went to on a tour.

Paris resturants recommended by a woman on one of my France tours:
both restaurants are in the RS Paris book close to Ecole Militaire
1. Le Florimond 19 ave de la motte picquet
2. Bistrot Belhara

Laurenut -- I have not been there.
at east ending of Rue Duvivier across the street from ave dek motte picquet

Ann beat me to it w Café Constant. Fantastic food and atmosphere but it is in a high tourist area. I recommend a reservation for downstairs or outside. W/o reservation, go between 2:00-6:00 ish.

We love Café Med for lunch or dinner. Very inexpensive. 3 course prix fixe menu for €15. Not fancy cooking, more like what you’d get in someone’s home.

Love Ladurée on the Champs Elysées.
Best club sandwich I’ve ever had. And my favorite macarons.

If you’re planning on a trip to Montmartre, Le Grand 8 was some of the best food I’ve eaten anywhere. Better yet, a good reason to visit Montmartre!
Just below Sacre Coeur, reservations recommended.

Ann has a great list. I have had many meals at Cafe Constant and La Terrasse.

La Terrasse is a bistro where you can get a meal at off hours, for instance at 5 pm. It is a great stop for a drink and people watching , as it is right by the Ecole Militaire metro stop. Yes there will be tourists but also locals. Last year I had lunch there myself and watched 2 local guys (the chef greeted them and sat down after their meals and had coffee), they had an astounding amount to drink that I probably was staring! Did not appear intoxicated though. I have seen others greeted by name by staff. The food is always good.

I also just stop wherever I am after reading the menu.

Have a great trip.

If you are near the Pompidou, I highly recommend Piroutte for lunch. It was one of our favorite meals in 2 1/2 weeks in France with braised beef and sea bass entrees.

If you are looking for cozy off the beaten path then wander off the beaten track and look for places that have more locals than tourists. Menus in French on chalk boards. What I love to do and rarely disappointed.

Le Petit Marche at 9 Rue de Béarn, 75003
Restaurant H at 17 Rue Beausire, 75004
L'Arcane at 39 Rue Lamarck, 75018
Les Papilles at 30 Rue Gay-Lussac, 75005
Le Petit Littre at 16 Rue Littré, 75006
Le Percolateur at 20 Rue de Turin, 75008
Le Bistrot d'Yves at 33 Rue Cardinet, 75017 (you can walk to this one from your hotel)
I am limiting myself to places that I have been to since May 2017. Some are off the beaten path but some are less so. At Les Papilles, let the server recommend a wine for the meal. It will be a revelation. My sister-in-law who knows a lot about red wine thought it was the wine we had with our meal in May 2017 was the best wine she had ever tasted. I just realized that I should mention that at 2 of the places, Les Papilles and L'Arcane, you have no choice other than noting allergies, etc. By the way, I agree completely about Cafe Constant and Cafe Varenne.

Another to add: Table de Genevieve on Rue Descartes near the Pantheon. Ate there last August while staying nearby and it was excellent. Also ate at le Volcan that same trip and it was okay except for the chocolate cake and that my children adored but YMMV. That is the thing with restaurant suggestions — what one person likes may be mediocre to another.
