hey guys i have been doing my research and i have narrowed it down to icelander airlines and air lingus.. icelander is much cheaper, but i have been reading some reviews and haven't been great my main concern is i will miss my connecting flight to paris layover is only 1hr and 25 min. Air lingus is a little more expensive about 175 more a person and the layover is in Brussels 2 hr layover. I need advice and see if you guys have used either airline and how was your experience.
Icelandair is great! The connections are short but we have never had a problem on three trips. The airport in Iceland is very small and getting to your connecting gate takes maybe 10 minutes including showing your passport to an officer in a small booth. Bring your own food, buy it on board or in the shops in Iceland.
Enjoy the trip!
I had the same concerns when I flew Icelandair 3 months ago with a 1 hour layover. It took about 5 minutes to go through passport control and I had plenty of time to walk around before catching my connecting flight. If you check bags, they will go directly to Paris. The plane from the US to Iceland had more legroom than British Air (which I usually use). The plane Iceland to Paris had less overhead space and was a bit tinny in feel but the flight was short and relatively comfortable. I have not used Air lingus but WILL be using Icelandair in the future. Icelandair is no frills, meals are not included and I had to bring my own headphones, but the cost difference, in my opinion, was worth it.
When is the last time you used icelandair beth? i will be leaving sept 12 so hopefully I'm not delayed. i hope lol
I have never flown with Icelandair, but I have flown with Aer Lingus multiple times. I have always been happy with the service, and they were always on time (or even a bit early). They do provide both dinner and breakfast on the flight, as well as entertainment. It sounds like you might be OK with the short connection time in Iceland, but if you are at all nervous about that, you won't be unhappy taking the Aer Lingus option.
We flew Icelandair in March 2014 and Sept 2012 R/T Amsterdam and July-Aug 2013 via Paris.
Great selection of inflight movies and delicious free bottled water.
Pillow and blanket on every seat leaving Denver.
From NYC you have more options but from Denver they cannot be beat on price, service or schedule.
Reading this forum brings back great memories, thanks eveyone!
Not only will you have plenty of time to connect in Iceland, but they allow enough time to stroll around and buy Icelandic products in the shops and food before you take off again. I like it because it breaks the trip up just over halfway. It's a small airport, built by the U.S. military during WW II originally.
i hope so guys, I'm just worried but i guess it depends on your experience went online and saw bad reviews and some good ones. Guess ill be taking a chance going there.
The staff at Rick Steves Europe uses Iceland air often. Its a very small airport and you will have no problem making your connection with 1 hour and 25 minutes. Its less stressful than Brussels. Hope that helps.
We've flown Icelandair twice from Seattle to Europe with no problems. As others noted, you bring your own food or buy onboard. Narrow-body jets with 3-3 seating. Time enough in Reykjavik to stretch your legs a bit and make your connection. If you're heading for a Schengen country you clear immigration in Reykjavik so no delay when you get to your destination, just as if it's a domestic flight.
We've only flown Icelandair to Europe because both times an Iceland volcano erupted and messed up our return flights, along with most others from Europe. So the lesson is don't plan to fly home when we do! ;)
I don't know Aer Lingus, no knock on them, but isn't $175 a lot to pay for 35 minutes longer layover?
Flew Iceland Air in Nov. from Frankfurt to Sacramento and was also concerned about my 40 min. layover between flights, both ways. Easy peasy. Every one reassured me that is was more than enough time and they were right.
Bring some food (or check their menu to see if there is anything you want to order) and your head phones for the movies. Great entertainment. I also like that I could bring 2 suitcases, cause I go shopping in the US, and bring lots of gifts from Germany. Not a lot of airlines let you do this any more.
Reviews are funny things.. while most are true .. it doesn't mean that experience will be true for you.
We had a month long visit to Europe this past july. We flew Virgin Alantic there.. then used Ryanair, Easyjet and Aer Lingus for inter europeon flights.
Our best flight was Ryanair .. ( contrary to many things you may see written about them ) and our worst was Aer Lingus!
I would rather change planes in a smaller airport then a larger one..
I don't ever care about the food, in general all airline food sucks and I pack my own.
I think I could find a way to spend that extra 350 dollars on something more fun.
Don't worry about the layover on icelandair. It is a tiny, tiny airport. I was worried too but it was fine.
