Hi. Headed to Paris from Spain and have time to make one stop for four days. Where would you stop? It needs to be a place where I can fly into, and one where I can take a train or plane on to Paris. I have never been to France and I would love a place full of French flavor where I can take buses to local villages or just stay. Bike rental would be great too. Suggestions on places to stay would be great. I welcome any advice. Thank you!
Lyon
Nancy
Avignon
Toulouse
Nice. Bus and/or train to Eze, Monaco, and many more! Rick has a Provence full of info.
Where are you coming from in Spain?
Marseille and Nice have flights from Spain (where though?) and then easy train connections to Paris.
Go to the wiki page for the airport in Spain that you're flying from. Toward the bottom, there's a table showing all the airlines and destinations from that airport. Chances are that you'll be able to take the TGV from any major city to Paris.
For instance, from Madrid, you could fly to Strasbourg, spend 4 days seeing Alsace.
Don't rule out the trains. It's about 5 hours from Barcelona to Lyon, then explore Burgundy.
Wonderful suggestions. Thank you all! I am coming from Bilbos, Spain.
Maybe take the Alsa bus (4 hrs) to Bordeaux, then TGV to Paris (3+ hrs). edit: I assume you mean Bilboa
Use rome2rio.com - that's what I just did.
Coming from Spain, are you willing to do a diversion ? If so, I suggest Dijon
Nice! with a day trip to Monaco and a stop in Avignon. Really enjoyed my time on the coast. 80 degrees in October! Poured rain in Avignon but it only added to the experience of the medieval town.
