Navigo Pass vs RAPT app on iPhone in Paris

The RAPT app seems so easy for my husband and I each to use for loading bus/metro tickets on each of our iPhones in Paris instead of physical Navigo cards. My concern is that people on Facebook have said iPhones sometimes have a glitch when using the digital tickets. What experiences have any of you had with this? Thanks!

I was in Paris April 2025 for about 8 days. I just used the app on my iPhone 14 Pro Max and bought a few tickets at the time as needed. I used the bus everywhere except when I rode the RER train to Versailles. It was super easy. Once you have the tickets in the app, you just place your phone near the scanner as you enter the bus or metro. Didn’t have to turn the phone on or open the app. Good luck, Paris is amazing!

In January, we were in Paris. We used the app. Half the time it did not work, and we had to ask for help from the ticket office.

Since March 2025, I have been to Paris four times. I used the app on my phone without any problems. I keep my tickets in my Apple wallet. My husband, son, and daughter do as well without issues. I think the glitches sometimes pop up because people may not have express transit mode activated on their phones.

Hmmm….don’t know what “express transit mode” is but I’ll research that ( and possibly ask my son in law). Thank you for sharing.

You can actually even buy RATP tickets directly in the iPhone wallet, you do not need the app even. (But the app is still very handy for route planning...)

Regarding "Express Transit Mode". I believe that is only needed in places where you use your CC to tap on and off. This indicates to the phone which CC you wish to use for that.

I'm off to Paris again soon, and I plan to see if my watch actually works...

Apple wallet has the Navigo Easy card built in and it works very well. You can load any fare other than the Navigo week/month pass. The reduced price options are for children 4-9.

Whoops…thanks for correction of RATP and also thanks for these responses. I plan to give it a try using the app and putting the tickets in our apple wallets.
