Navigo pass for Versailles?

Can I use my Navigo Pass to get to Versailles or do I need to purchase a different ticket? How about to get to Fountainebleau?

If you get the all-zone Navigo Pass, yes, it is valid to and from Versailles.

Yes, you can use the Navigo Decouverte pass to travel to Versailles & Fontainebleau.

You'll need to have a small ( 1" x 1.25") photo of you (head & shoulders)

I scanned our passport photos, then reduced the size before printing them.

Don't forget to book your Eiffel Tower tickets as far as 92 days in advance!

Thank you so much! We are leaving for Paris in 6 days so we got our Eiffel Tower tickets some time ago. I'm packed and waiting as patiently as I can! I'll work on getting our pictures figured out for the Navigo Pass tomorrow.

Thank you Sam but I seem to be having trouble understanding that route planner. When I try to use it it looks like it will take me 5 hours and 59 minutes to get there. That surely can't be right. RS book says 45 minutes.

I started the journey at Gare de Lyon, since Melun station is the end of the D2 RER line and where you pick up the 34 bus to the Chateau. I got about 1 hour.
Edit- start at 8:49, 24 minutes to Melun, 11 minutes waiting for the bus (of which 4 minutes is the estimated walk to the bus stop), 20 minute bus ride.

We bought the navigo pass last September . Buy it at the airport , you can use it to get on the train into Paris , on the subways and busses and we used it for the train to fountainbleau and the bus to the chateau in fountainbleau. Worth every penny

The route planner takes into account the time of day - and actual conditions. Did you try it when it was 3 a.m. in Paris? I believe there's an option to put in the time and day you want to travel. The default is "now."

I think that when I looked at it last year, there were at least 2 rail options from Paris to Versailles, one was covered by the Navigo, one was not. . . . the one that was covered was less convenient to the palace entrance.

I love the route planner site! I'm still working out how we're getting from the airport to our apartment. Do the busses let you take luggage on them?

If they have room. It will be on your lap if the bus is full.

Where's your hotel in Paris and what time do you land at CDG?

I took the AirFrance bus - Les Cars. It was a short, easy city bus ride to/from the drop-off point to my apartment and a very comfortable ride to/from CDG. It was worth paying more for the ease and comfort - rather than hauling luggage up/down stairs on the RER and metro. There's a discount if you buy a round-trip ticket. There's an attendant at each stop to load/unload luggage from the hold. And since I traveled early morning, it was easy to take my wheeled suitcase on the city bus.

Thanks Chanti, that sounds like another good option. Our apartment is near Rue Cler. I was thinking RER to Luxembourg then taxi to our apartment so he can take us right to our address since we are unfamiliar with the area. This is if there is a taxi stand near that metro station. Where would the bus let us off?

If you are going to spring for a Navigo, you might as well use it to get into Paris. There are escalators at the CDG RER station. Suggest going all the way to Denfert-Rochereau, where there are also elevators/escalators and since it is also a transport hub with the terminus for the Orlyval shuttle and other buses, should be plenty of available taxis. Distance to Rue Cler area is not much different from any other RER B station.

Sounds like the best way is the RER, then taxi. The Air France bus won't come as close, so not worth the money.

That's kind of what I was thinking. We leave in two days so time for me to have this all figured out I think.

How many of you are there in your party? By the time you buy RER tickets into town and then get back up to ground and take a taxi locally, if there are two of you or more, you might as well just take a taxi direct from the airport for 55 euros (fixed rate). For two people, it's already nearly 20 euros if you're buying the RER ticket from CDG into town, plus another 10-12 for the local taxi. For just a little more, you can sit in comfort all the way from the airport and not haul your suitcase up and down any stairs. And especially if you're three or more, any "savings" per person evaporate.

I think the start of this thread is that the OP would be getting a Navigo Semaine. Thus the ride on the RER B from the airport would be "free".(covered by the Navigo)

There are just two of us. I am thinking of getting Navigo passes so it won't cost us anymore to take the RER. Do I have that right?

Yes, that's right. If you go ahead and buy the Navigo, the ride from the airport will be included.
