We are in Paris for a week . Is it a good idea to buy a navigo pass? We arrive tomorrow to CDG and need to get into area near Luxemburg Gardens. Thanks for help.
It is a very good idea if you plan multiple trips on public transport, starting with your trip from CDG to Luxembourg Gardens district. Bring a 25 mm by 30 mm headshot photo with. Selfies work.
Yes - it's a great idea! You're timing is perfect since it's good Mon - Sun. Buy it at the airport and use it to get into Paris. It's so convenient, and will not only get you around Paris but will also get you to Versailles, Fontainebleau and many other places on the Ile de France.
Remember to ask for the Navigo Decouverte as the Navigo per se is the registered pass for locals. The Navigo Decouverte can be purchased by anyone and is absolutely the best choice for transport for a week in Paris starting on Monday. The thing runs Mon-Sunday. It will take you from CDG to wherever in Paris and to any other destination in the Ile de France while you are there and covers all public transport including the Montmartre funicular.
You need a postage stamp size head shot -- 25/30 mm which you can run off on your home computer. If you don't have one there are photo machines in some stations.
It makes no sense to pay someone to transfer your luggage. There are escalators and elevators.
It's a great idea , we used it last September and as the previous replies it can be used to go to Versailles ,fountainbleau ,the buses , rer, well worth it
Bought four of 'em today as we just arrived to Paris. It's a couple of days into the cycle, and I am sure we will at least break even, but even if not, it proved to be so fantastically convenient today to just swipe and go while we watched others struggle with tickets.
We just photocopied our passport photos and cut 'em down. We did get checked by Metro security just by chance while exiting near the Eiffel Tower, but they let us go and said to make sure to affix the pix asap, which I have since done.
My daughter & I purchased our Navigo Decouverte passes (Thanks to Janet's advice), at Gare de Lyon when we arrived to Paris a couple of weeks ago & it was one of the best investment we made.
Despite the fact that we were only there for 5 days, we took the Metro & the various buses everywhere in Paris.
Hope you're enjoying your trip!
Thanks for all the replies. The Navigo Pass is working well for us on RER, Metro, and buses.
Michael you were VERY lucky not to get fined for not having valid passes; the inspectors almost never let people go without a fine if they haven't got a picture on their ND or havent validated a ticket. Glad you avoided that.
