it is quite simple.. If you want metro/bus tickets for Paris for a few days or over a weekend, get an Easy and put a carnet on it.

If your dates work for an ND e.g. most of a week between Mon and Sun or most of a month and you also anticipate using it to get to and/or from CDG or have trips in the Ile de France outside Paris then get the ND.
We get the ND because it is convenient whether it saves money or not. Once you have it, it is good for 10 years -- we will be putting monthly passes on our for April and May this spring. To get the card you need a 25/30 head shot which you can print on your computer.

otherwise you can still buy little paper tickets from the vending machines, depending on your needs

I love the Navigo Easy. Last trip my days of the week didn't line up well enough for me to get a Navigo Decouverte but the Navigo Easy is basically a card you load individual tickets on to. You can buy a carnet of 10 tickets (good for 1 ride each) and get paper tickets (for a while longer) or load a carnet onto a Navigo Easy electronically.

How long are you going to be in Paris and what days of the week?

October of 2023 -

Planning a 10 day stay in Paris - with two excursions outside the city - Reims and Versailles.

The days will, hopefully, span a Friday arrival - the entire next week - over the following weekend and departure - after an overnight stay - on Monday - looking at the calendar October 6-16. Of course, may change with hotel or apartment availability.

Well, that will be great. You’ll get experience with both, lol.

The Navigo Decouverte runs from Monday to Sunday but you can’t buy it after Thursday so you’ll use the Navigo Easy for the weekend. You can buy and load the ND on Sunday for use on Monday.

You’ll take a photo with you for the ND. Not needed for the Easy. A photocopy of your passport picture will work fine.

I got the pass Sunday morning at CDG when I got in with the Navigo Decouvert (I departed the next Sunday). I went solo, so I got the ND just for the flexibility, wouldn't have to worry about accidentally tossing it, or if i got into an unsafe situation, I could take any bus or any metro and get out of dodge (I never needed to, but liked the flexibility).

Burn a photocopy of your passport page with photo before you leave. The agent at CDG's train station was GREAT and very helpful.

And when you leave, DON'T throw away the card, it's good for 10 yrs, so a great excuse to go back!!

The Navigo Découverte is just a card, it can be loaded with daily, weekly, or monthly passes. You´ll need to be specific about what you want.

Also important is that the bearer's photo and name be added in the spaces provided to validate the card.

My only concern is will - we use either card - enough - in NYC - we always walked rather than use the subway.

We will need to purchase tickets to travel to Versailles and I have to determine the best plan TO GET TO Gare de 'lest to travel to Reims. Plan to book to make this trip on a Sunday - taxi or metro to Gare de l'est .

I am planning to make reservations - hotel or apartment in the 5th Arrondissment - on the map - at least - sites appear to be in walking distance - and we are all walkers - exercise.

So, I have to think about all of this --

Many thanks for the feedback ...

I took the taxi twice from my hotel near Luxembourg Gardens to Gare du l'Est, it's simple and they will be in taxi lanes most of the way. It comes down to convenience, don't obsess about cost (yes even Rick says that sometimes paying for a taxi makes sense).

Also check out a thread I posted about the different ways to get to Versailles courtesy of The Man.

Thank you for the recommendation for the taxi - that is what we will do!

Where can I access your info on how to get to Versailles?
