Navigo

Have been browsing the websites regarding Navigo Passes and am more confused than ever. We will be mostly walking but want the option of catching both the bus and the metro. We arrive on a Friday and would use the bus that day, the metro on Saturday and on Monday (but not Sunday)
What would be the best Navigo Pass to buy which includes bus and metro?
Where is the best place to buy them, with the possibility the vendor speaks some English (my high school French usually result in more confusion)
Also, if I use the G7 app can I pay the taxi in cash, or is it like Uber and automatically deducted from credit card?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Navigo cards off all sorts can be purchased from vending machines in Metro Stations. Just hit the "English" button and have an idea of what you want. Discontinuous day usage suggests getting ones that are denominated in numbers of rides, 8 for example, over several days. The machine will remind you that each ride is only one way - so going somewhere and back will be two rides.

There is no 4 day pass. Pass options are:

  • a day pass at 12€ (excludes airport access)
  • a weekly pass, valid Monday through Sunday only and will not work for you.
  • a Paris Visite Pass, valid for any 5 consecutive days - 76.25€

I would simply purchase a Navigo Easy card (2€), and load it with the necessary métro/RER/Transilien train tickets at 2.50€ and as many bus/tramway tickets are you may need at 2€.

Transportation fares may be purchase at any métro/train station, or at any of the hundreds of 3rd party resellers such as magazine stores or tabacs.

All Taxis Parisiens accept Visa/MC.

Thanks everyone. So, from what I can gather, purchase a Navigo Easy Card pass and load it up with as many rides either on the bus or metro I think we will use over four days? As for the taxi, I like to pay them in cash, but if I have ordered one through my G7 app, is the ride automatically credited to the credit card used to open the app?

If you entered your credit card info when you downloaded the app, it'll automatically be charged to your card.

if you don't have a card you'll end up spending the better part of an hour waiting to get to the front of a kiosk in CDG or Gare l'Est. Don't do that. Go to one of the smaller stations and buy your card and load it there. The advice of just loading trips vs. a pass is good. odds are you will not use more than 4-5 trips a day.
