navigo decouverte weekly pass

I am traveling to paris with my wife and I land in CDG on 2nd Nov, Wednesday. And I leave from paris on 5th Nov early morning from orly airport. I will be staying in the city center for all 3 nights. I plan to cover paris city center attractions, disneyland, la le village, versailes. Would a navigo decouverte weekly pass cover all these places including both the airports. I believe a navigo pass would be valid from monday to sunday. I could buy the navigo pass at CDG ?

Yes to your questions. Best of luck seeing all that in 3 days. What is la le village?

So you have only one full day in Paris? The pass plus the one time fee for the card is about E33, not expensive, however in that short of a time frame how can you see Disneyland, Versailes, and anything in Paris too? Unless I'm misunderstanding your post? I'm not answering your question (sorry about that) I'm just trying to say how many RER rides can be done in that short of a time frame to merit buying one. J

You're there for such a short time, just pay a la carte for what you really end up needing and using

Since you arrive in Paris on a Wednesday; get the Navigo weekly pass (for Monday to Sunday) all zones (1-5) which covers CDG, Orly, Versailles & Paris Disneyland. You can use it for unlimited rides on the subway, RER, bus, Roissybus (to CDG) and Orly bus (to Orly). Just the round-trip rides (Roissybus, Orly bus or RER) to the airports will cover the cost of the pass; so even just for 3 nights (2 full days) of stay is still well worth it.

FYI:
Navigo Découverte Card is just the name of the physical card (similar to London Oyster card) for visitors to Paris; which you can load it with the Navigo weekly pass (or day pass etc) you buy.

If you need a new Navigo Découverte card (and the Navigo weekly pass) you can buy it at the CDG airport RER station ticket office (between 2C and 2E). The ticket office is located at the lowest level in the lobby; look for the sign 'BILLETS PARIS ET ILE-DE-FRANCE' outside the ticket office. This website has directions with photos for the RER ticket office:

https://parisbytrain.com/paris-airport-terminal-2-train-photo-tour/

A new card cost 5€ and the Navigo weekly pass all zones (1-5) is 22.8€. You will need to affix a face photo (3cm x 2.5cm) and your name on it. Without these you can get a fine by inspector.

If you have an old card from previous trip; then you can simpy top it up with Navigo pass at the ticket office, vending machine, or you can do it on your smart phone by using the Bonjour RATP app (see the following post). Have a great trip!

To be covered for the trip to Orly, be sure to follow the advice above and take the Orlybus to Orly.

If you take the RER train to the Orlyval (the last little connecting bit of train from the ReR train to the airport itself), it costs an additional I don't know eight to ten euros.

Edit: I checked and the extra fee for the Orlyval in addition to the Passe is 9.30€.

May I ask why La Vallée Village? It is just an outlet mall, and we are outside of sales periods (Jan & Jul) so I am not sure you will find the best possible deals. If you do go, make sure it is not on the Saturday...

In any case:

  • Paris proper absolutely requires at least 1.5 days, and that is if you are happy with only seeing the outside of monuments & attractions
  • Versailles takes most of a day, only leaving you with an evening in Paris
  • Disneyland takes a full day; it is next to La Vallée Village but I cannot see how you could both enjoy Disneyland and do any significant shopping on the same day. Especially since we are in school holidays + there will be Halloween theming: it will be extra busy.

So, you'll need to make some hard choices...

to waste time in an outlet mall with almost no time for Paris seems perverse -- but we all do the trips we want.

The ND is cost effective even for your short stay because of the distance travel you are doing. It is 10.30 from CDG to Paris, then about 7 to and from Versailles, and 10 to and from Disney and to and from the village thing. so the 27 or so for the ND card and one week pass at 22.80 is at least a break even. Note that the ND will not cover the Orlyval. I'd take a cab to Orly.

but seriously re-think how you are spending so little time in Paris -- perhaps you have traveled to Paris many times and don't really want to see Paris?

Shop tax free at airports for deals on designer brands. It's easy and fills in time while you wait to board your plane.

Google up newspaper and magazine articles on discount shopping in Paris, I know the NY Times has covered it before. Most of the articles are from pre COVID so don't automatically assume that those places are still open or are worth a visit. Because as I recall none of them are convenient to Paris. Also look for chains like Marshalls, TJ Maxx, etc. if they're in France I know they are in the UK.

Hello - do you really have to have a picture to purchase the weekly pass? It's not easy to acquire pictures of that size for a family of four. Do they not have photo booth where you can take them there?

There are photo booths at most metro stations and at RER stations but why go to the hassle and expense when it is dead easy to take pictures on your phone and print them from your computer. Or take a snapshot and cut out the head shots from prints. This is just not complicated. And yes you REALLY have to have a photo for these non transferable passes and when the agents do ticket control they look at the picture to make sure it is you.

Multi-day passes (except for the Paris Visite) are loaded onto a nontransferable card, which for tourists will be the Navigo Découverte. Before using the ND card, it must be properly configured with the bearers name and photo. The Navigo Découverte comes with instructions in English and costs 5€.

The fine, for using this card improperly configured, is 35€.

All RATP sales locations have photo booths available, selling the required photos at 5€. The service desks have scissors to trim these photos to fit your card. Third party resellers may not have a readily available method to have your picture taken, but you may bring a photo with you as long as the photo is new (not scanned, not photocopied) and sized at 25mm x 30mm. Navigo cards are valid for 10 years.
