Does anyone know the difference between these two passes? Rick seems to be using the terms interchangeably in the newest version of the Paris guide book. Thanks.
To me they are not interchangeable terms.
The Navigo Decouverte is a plastic card you buy for 5E and load a week's pass on for unlimited rides in zones 1-5. The week runs from Monday to Sunday so it depends on what days of the week that you'll be there. If you are there from Thursday to Sunday this is an option for you.
The Navigo Jour is a ticket you load onto either your plastic Navigo Easy card or your plastic Navigo Decouverte card. It is good for transport for a day and works for the airports. I've been to Paris a lot and am not sure in what instance you'd use this option. I would probably just buy a carnet of 10 tickets and load them onto my Navigo Easy card.

Tell us what days of the week you'll be there and what you'll be doing and maybe one of us can give you specific advice.
A navigo jour is a day pass and only works fr CDG if you load a 5 zone pass which costs 20 Euros ( a day pass for just Paris is 8.25). Since a weekly pass is 30 Euro, it is a bad deal unless your dates don't work for the ND weekly pass AND you only need the pass for one day. A ticket from anywhere in Paris to CDG is about 11 Euro (can't remember exact cost since prices just changed)
The Navigo Découverte is a plastic card, just as are the Navigo Easy, Navigo Liberté, the basic Navigo, and many others (none of which is applicable to tourism). The Navigo Découverte is NOT a pass.
The Navigo Jour is a one calendar day, day pass; sold according to its coverage area. The Navigo Semaine is the name of the pass valid from any given Monday to the following Sunday, also generally known as the weekly pass. The Navigo Semaine is available in varying areas of coverage, popular for most tourists is the zone 1-5 pass at 30€.
There are tickets/passes and there are cards/smartphones which hold the tickets/pass. Ticket/pass/card descriptions are found here:
Or, you pay as you go. Up to you how much you want to complicate things, this will likely be one of your lower trip expenses.
Will someone please confirm that a US citizen can still buy the Navigo Decouverte weekly pass. Price increased Jan 1, 2023 from 23 to 30 euro. Understand only residents can buy the other Navigo passes, which is ok. Seem to be many recent changes in their policies.
The Navigo card is mailed for free to those living in the Île-de-France. This is not useful for tourists.
Anyone may purchase a Navigo Découverte card (5€), properly configure it (name and photo), and load any fare they like.
There are many fare options. Among the most popular for tourists is the zone 1-5, Navigo Semaine (weekly pass) costing 30€. Valid during any Monday to Sunday period, the Navigo Semaine pass may only be purchase for the current week through Thursday. Passes purchased on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday become usable on the following Monday.
These options/policies have been firmly in place for many years. Costs may change, and just did 1 January.
Hopefully below link connects you to thread on similar question in November 2021. Many insightful responses!
