Navigo cards

Can I load the Navigo card onto my phone while I am still in the US and also add tickets to it while I am in the US? I read some conflicting information about using it to get from the airport into Paris. I will be staying in arrondissement 9. I also see 2 kinds of Navigo cards. If I will be going to and from the airport and also to Giverny and Versailles what should I purchase?
I will be traveling Thursday May 28 - Mon June 7.

There are a lot of different Navigo cards. The two of interest to tourists are the Navigo Découverte (5€) - for passes, and the Navigo Easy (2€) - for tickets. Navigo Découverte cards are not sold at airports.

If you want to use a smartphone to hold fares, download and configure either the Ile de France Mobilités app or the Bonjour RATP app. Both work equally well. You should be able to purchase and to load tickets. Passes require your establishing a Connect account. The process is explained here:

It is unlikely that you will be able to establish a Connect account on a phone from outside the EU.

What you should purchase, assuming you do not already have a Navigo Découverte card, will depend upon the day of the week you arrive and specifically where you want to go.

This is a good summary of fare options:

sherryjb, as Tocard says, which card/s depends on your start and end dates.

If you provide your dates, we can be of more assistance. Will you be traveling by public transportation or taxi to and from the airport?

Your trip to Giverny is outside of the Paris transit system. Here's a post with information on getting to Giverny.

I just used my Apple wallet and was easily able to add a metro ticket to my iPhone from Australia.

It appears in the Wallet and also in the IDF app, which happened automatically.
