My original plan was Munich - Stuttgart - Freiburg - Strasbourg - CDG for flight home but with the Christmas markets in December Strasbourg seems very pricey and I'm wondering if staying in Nancy would be a good alternate. I think it is still within an hour of Strasbourg if we want to do a day trip there and it is still on the way to CDG for the flight home. We would be there 2 nights.

Any suggestions (other options to consider or things to see in the area) ?

Someone mentioned Kehl Germany which is close to Strasbourg and another option. Places to stay in Nancy seem reasonable price wise.

Stay in Nancy, very true that prices in Strasbourg are high, ie, overpriced. I would stay in Nancy but then I know Nancy better than Strasbourg.

Kehl, Germany is actually the terminus of one of the tramway lines. When we were last there we took a tram to the last stop in France and then walked across the bridge to Germany, just to say we did it. Kehl is cute in spots, but is pretty utilitarian.

Nancy is one of my favorite cities in France. It is a jewel box of Art Nouveau architecture. It has a beautiful central piazza (what’s the French word?); and there is a museum of local history, very worth visiting.

Definitely go and see the Museum of the School of Nancy for art nouveau material.
