We are heading to Paris in mid September. Rick Steves suggests buying a Museum Pass for Paris once you are actually in Paris. I'm trying to reserve a time slot for the Louvre in advance of our trip, but I need the serial number from the Museum pass to do so. So, what to do? Buy the Museum Pass online from home, or reserve the Louvre once we get to Paris and buy the pass? I'm worried the Louvre will fill up, as it looks like the Eiffel Tower already has.

go on line, buy the tickets and put some random numbers where they ask for the pass number -- maybe your phone number? See if that works. Others have reported that it does. Then buy the pass when you get to Paris and take your reservation and pass.
If you look at the museum websites, they have plenty of openings right now, even for the next day. It's different from the Eiffel Tower. I wouldn't worry too much about it and just wait until you get to Paris--but then, I'm an inveterate gambler.
