Traveling in mid March, do I need to prebook tickets for Musée Jacquemart-André on Sunday? I would like to visit other museums prior and I have no idea what time I can make it to Musée Jacquemart-André. Booking on site makes it more flexible in timing.
I was there last May. Can't recall what day. I just showed up at opening time and got my ticket. There were only a few people ahead of me in the no-reservation riffraff line.
Usually not. If they have a very popular exhibit you might need to but we booked for the Artemesia Gentileschi a day ahead I think. It is a small cramped exhibit space (although wonderful house to see) and so when a popular exhibit is there access is limited. I wouldn't worry about it. They have a wonderful little tea room which is a great place for lunch
Well, I'm not sure about March but last October I had a plan for a day that fell thru and thought to go to the J-A. I went online and poof...it was sold out for the day. I don't remember if there was a special exhibition on at the time or not.
I recommend you keep their ticketing page up on your browser and check once a week for the next few weeks to see how the tickets are selling for the day/s you think you might want to go. IF things look like they are getting full, go ahead and purchase.
I was there last week with a booked ticket and the line for people with no tickets was about 40 people long around noon.
I would book in advance.
It might be that special/more popular exhibits make all the difference between needing to book ahead or not. In early January 2025, we had tickets booked to see the Galerie Borghèse exhibit. It was packed. In September 2025, we booked in advance for the GEORGES DE LA TOUR exhibit. It was very busy. Now, it might be that the J-A is always busy no matter the exhibits in which case, I would book ahead. It's a sweet mansion and atmosphere. I hope you're able to go.
I bought tickets on Friday night for a Saturday noon entrance time the end of May last year. Those who hadn’t booked ahead were only allowed in as people left. There were probably 20 people waiting in line when we went in.
Thank you for sharing your experience. The day I am going has no special exhibition so I don’t know if that helps… I will report back for fellow travellers
Last fall there was the blockbuster Georges de la Tour exhibit, so yes, having an advance ticket would have been absolutely necessary. “Baroque Splendors” opens March 26th; I don’t know if it will attract anything like the number of people who came specifically for the de la Tour exhibit.
The person who was there last week who saw the long line for people without tickets was there during the literal very last days of the de la Tour exposition (it closed Feb 22) which explains why there would have been a long line. And that exhibit opened in September, which would also explain why Pam found the tickets already sold out for the day she wanted to go in October.
But it sounds like you will be visiting ahead of March 26th, so yes I think you will be fine.
Thank you Kim! That makes perfect sense!
AND it is one of the only venues that is open every, single day of the year including May 1, Christmas Day and New Years Day so for anyone reading this in the future you will need a timed entry for those busy days.
