Musée Européen Ivan Tourguéniev and ….?

I've always wanted to visit The Ivan Turgenev house in Bougival and this July I will finally have the chance to do so.

What I was wondering was if anyone had any recommendations for places to visit nearby. I have read a bit on the forums about “Musée national des châteaux de Malmaison et de Bois-Préau” and it seems interesting.

Has anyone visited any of these places?

Musée d’Archéologie nationale - Domaine national du château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye

Musée du Domaine royal de Marly

The château de Monte-Cristo, the home and park of Alexandre Dumas

We will be staying in Milon-la-Chapelle, about 20km south of Versailles, and I will have my car.

TIA

I have looked at visiting the Musee d'Archeologie Nationale for several years. It seems as if a number of exhibit areas are closed due to a renovation and the ones that are open seem to be available on a rotating schedule. IF you go, make sure you know what will be open on the day you plan to visit. Also, I am looking at the English version of the website so there may be more information on the French version.

I loved my visit to Malmaison. It is a very liveable size with lovely gardens. However, I note it is still in the midst of reconstruction work even though it is still open. They said it would complete in 2025, but no date.

Both Malmaison and the St Germain en Laye museum are very interesting IMO, and the towns next to them are worth a stroll.
I have been to the former palace grounds in Marly, but not to the museum. The museum sounds like more of a specialist interest for people with a strong interest in Louis XIV, but the grounds are beautiful.

Thanks all for the replies.

@Pam, Yvelines Department has a good tourism site, and on the page about the Musee d'Archeologie Nationale they write;

Visitable

From 01/01 to 31/12 between 10 am and 5 pm. Closed on Tuesday. Closed
exceptionally on January 1st, May 1st and December 25th. Note: You are
advised to call +33 (0)1 39 10 13 00 to check that the museum
galleries are open.
Due to a high number of school trips on Mondays,
Thursdays and Fridays, you are advised to visit between midday and 2pm
or after 3.30pm.

The bold is my edit.

@Balso, I'm more of a Enrique III/Henri IV than a LouisXIV guy, so thanks

I read some Turgenev in college and enjoyed Fathers and Sons. Fifty years later I went to re-read it and discovered it is now titled Fathers and Children, apparently the more accurate translation nowadays. My only Turgenev contribution such as it is. Enjoy your visit!

Due to our interests in Celtic and Gallo-Roman objects, we've been to the museum in Saint Germain-en-Laye several times. In addition to the museum in the chateau, there are also the huge gardens designed by Le Notre.
