Musée de Minéralogie: status, svp?

Hey all,

Does anyone know what's going on with the Musée de Minéralogie in Paris? Google shows it as temporarily closed and their website is unreachable/down. However, I just read reviews from people who were there last week.

Also, starting on Jan. 16, Galerie de Paléontologie et d’Anatomie comparée is closed for 18 months while they renovate the place. Bummer, as I really wanted to go here.

Thanks,

Thank you both. My husband would love this, and we'll be in Paris in June. And some friends from home will be meeting us there, and they are also rock and mineral fans.

If you're really into that sort of thing I recommend taking a side trip to the Carreau Wendel Museum, near Forbach, about 2 hours east of Paris.

As for Paleontology I recommend the Urwelt Museum Hauff, the Natural History Museum in Darmstadt (which also has a really good mineral display), and the State Museum of Natural History, Stuttgart. Stuttgart and Hauff have the best fossils, but there's actually places near Darmstadt where you can break some rocks and maybe find your own. My favorite, the Urwelt Museum in Bodman has closed, and I despair of ever seeing that collection again. It was fantastic.

Mike, thanks for posting this. I've had this museum on a mental list for Paris for several years. I'm now moving it to the google docs list, hahaha. May try to get there this spring.
