Musée d'Orsay on Thursday night - need a timed ticket?

My family of four is planning to visit the Musée d'Orsay on Thursday, July 7, after 6:30 pm, largely on the RS guidebook's suggestion that there will be smaller crowds on Thursday evenings. Should we still buy a timed ticket at that hour? Or can we just plan to buy tickets when we arrive (and thus keep some flexibility in our schedule)?

I don't know for sure -- When we were at the Orsay recently the line for tickets was shorter than it has been in the past because most everyone comes with timed tickets so you might risk it.

Do note that the closing time of Paris museums is everyone is on the street at that time. They begin closing down about half an hour before closing including sometimes closing whole areas. This is most pronounced at the Louvre but also happens at the Orsay. So I'd sort of write off that last half hour and plan to arrive to give yourself the time you need with that in mind.
