Musee d'Orsay celebrates 30 years

The Musee d'Orsay will be free on the weekend of Friday, 2 December 2017 to Sunday, 4 December 2017. Entrance is by Porte C, around the corner from the admission line.

Attention: Friday, the museum will close at 19h00 - allow 15 minutes to clear out.
Sunday, the museuem will close at 18h00 - allow 15 minutes to clear out.

There will probably be a lot of people going to the Museum, so I'd go as early as possible. No tickets necessary.

I missed d'Orsay this time. I was planning on going during my last weekend in Paris but it was free Sunday (first of October) and the line was too long, so I skipped it. I went to Orangerie first and that wasn't crowded.

I generally avoid the free days/hours, but right before or after a free day is a great time to visit with a pass. On Saturday, I spent most of the day in the Louvre and it was nice (especially when you get away from the most popular exhibits).

Thanks for the tip, chexbres! Still, sometimes you actually get what you paid for.

But sometimes, nothing beats "free." Walking back to our hotel in Zagreb one night, a Döner kebab place was closing, and wanted to get rid of their last bit of meat, so offered free stuffed pitas to passersby, and we all got free midnight snacks. One guy walked along with his treat, grinning ear to ear, chuckling, and repeating, "Gratis! Gratis! Gratis!"

The Orsay is truly a great museum with an unbeatable collection, I'll be certain to visit it next month, but won't be there for the big celebration in December.

Well, maybe this will help other interested people who have no idea about what to do for free things.
