Rick Steves Paris says tickets are 16 euros. Page 187
The official website has its cheapest ticket (with audio guide) as 46 euros. That’s 3 times more expensive. Can someone verify that the museum prices have tripled since the writing of the book? Published June 2024 fyi there was no option to buy tickets only on the website.
I’m afraid you’ve mistaken the website of a 3rd party ticket reseller for the official website. A ticket to the Musée d’Orsay is still only €16 on the official website https://billetterie.musee-orsay.fr/en-GB/home
In June this year, I paid 16 Euros per ticket and 6 Euros for the audio guide. I purchased them in advance on the Musee D’Orsay website.
I bought tickets on the museum website for 16 euros (without audio guide) for next week.
Just ran a test; was able to choose a 16 euro ticket. As mentioned above, make sure you're using the official website!

brook, You are probably not on the official website. Some sites are closely disguised to resemble the official ones. Please be careful on all your bookings. If not sure, check here, or Google what you want and scroll down checking the urls. Does it end in .fr?
Thank you all! It looked so legit!
You are just another tourist who (probably) was almost misled by The Walker Tours https://www.musee-orsay-tickets.org/en
You should never buy from them ... for any location or event.
“ If not sure, check here, or Google what you want and scroll down checking the urls. Does it end in .fr?”
Just wanted to warn people that .fr only means that a website is registered in France. It doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a legitimate and/or website. It’s perfectly possible for a 3rd party reseller to register their website in France and have a .fr domain.
Any time you google something and get an unexpected charge for anything, assume you have been gulled by their habit of privileging their advertisers and letting them mimic official websites. Always stop at that point and triangulate and make sure you have the official site. Same with hotels where you can book with middlemen thinking you are on the hotel web site.
I am on the Orsay website a couple of times a month so it's "in" my computer history. The other day I started typing in museedor... and I wound up on the "Musee d'Orsay by Walker tours" website. I was shocked when I saw the admission charge because I knew what it regularly is which is when I realized I'd gotten onto the unofficial website. It's very easy to do even for someone experienced as they are using the official logo but have in small text off to the side "by Walker tours". Exasperating!
I am SO glad you came here before you booked!
