Musee d'Armee online ticket question

We are scheduled to fly out to Paris on 9/29. I've started looking at the museums we want to visit in order to schedule times and purchase tickets online. One of the places we want to visit is the Musee d'Armee. They have a couple of exhibitions there currently focusing on Napoleon's death as 2021 is the 200th anniversary. The exhibitions appear to have a separate ticket online from the permanent collection but appears to include admission to the permanent collection and is the same price. Does it matter which ticket we get? For those who have been there recently, have you attended either of the exhibitions and have any feedback?

Caveat: I have never been to that museum.

Even pre-COVID there were often limited entry slots available for special exhibitions, and you wouldn't get in if you didn't have a ticket to that specific exhibition. In the absence of instructions to the contrary, I'd buy the exhibition ticket. It is certainly possible that it includes general admission to the museum. The layout of most museums is such that you have to walk through part of the general-exhibition area to reach the area used for the special exhibition, so it might be difficult to keep folks with Napoleon-exhibition tickets from also visiting the rest of the museum.

I was there last week. There are a number of entrances to the various sections of the museum. There is absolutely no need to purchase tickets in advance.

@Tocard thanks so much for the report. I read that you have to have a timed entry to the Army Museum, which requires purchasing a ticket online in advance. Are you saying that wasn't required for your visit? Is there any advantage like skipping the line if you purchase online?

There are no lines and there are a variety of entrances depending upon which collection you want to see. One ticket takes you into a half dozen different entry points. It makes no sense that an entry is timed.

It appears that the museum´s website is not working, at least not for me, but I would not worry about buying tickets in advance.

Hope the OP doesn't mind if I jump in with a question. We will be in France the week of October 25th. I would suspect that the heavy part of the tourist season will be over by then. We want to see the Louvre Museum and go up the Eiffel Tower. Should we buy tickets in advance or wait till we arrive? We will also need train tickets from Caen to Paris. Any concerns there?

The museum is excellent...well worth your time if you are deep into Napoleonic history. I was there at the special exhibit in 2015 on the 200th anniversary of Waterloo., didn't dare miss that. The literature was in both French and English Seeing news and recommendation of the exhibit on French TV (in my hotel room) gave me more incentive to see that special exhibition.

I never get tickets like this on-line, just show up buy it at the museum, either from a staffed counter or the ticket machine. I go to the counter.

Thanks so much all! I've been monitoring the list on the Paris Museum Pass page of those sites that are requiring reservations: http://events.parisinfo.com/ec/pmpversionuk.pdf. The document says it's not required for the Army Museum but the site made it sound as if it is, so thank you for clearing that up. This is my husband's first trip to Paris (I've been there a couple of time before) and he's very interested in the Napoleonic era so I want to make sure and get that right. :)

@trblee I have heard from multiple posters in this forum that reservations at the Louvre are required and that's reflected on the document linked above and the Louvre website. But late October is still a bit away and who knows what the requirements will be then, things could change. For the Eiffel Tower, I've personally been there twice before - the first time without a timed entry and the second twice with a timed entry - and while the crowds shouldn't be as bad in October I would still recommend a timed entry if you want to visit later in the day. It's a very popular tourist destination and I personally didn't like spending 2 hours of my sight-seeing time waiting in line the first time I went. I would also check and see if they're requiring reservations at this time (I haven't checked myself) - I'm willing to bet they are due to having to limit capacity in the elevators.

Thanks copperheadpdx. Thats good information. You live in a beautiful part of America. I've been there several times. Columbia River Gorge is way cool. I've hiked on Mt Hood and other surrounding mountains. Adams, Saint Helens and Rainier. So pretty out there.
