Musee Cognacq-Jay

We plan to visit Paris in September 2025 and find the walk maps in your Paris Guide Book very interesting. However, for your Marias Walk, I'm wondering why the Musee Cognacq-Jay is not recognized anywhere in your book, let alone in the walk map. It is right around the corner from the Musee Carnavalet, and it is highly recommended via other sources. We want to make the best of our time while walking the area but don't want to miss something that may be a worthwhile experience.

Rick's guides are very much geared to Rick's preferences and tastes. Take "Rick Steve's Europe" very literally. There are many places he leaves out of the Paris guide. Other guides leave out entire sections of the country - Germany, for instance, ignores all of Schleswig-Holstein.

The Musee Cognacq-Jay is small and free. Stopping by will not add much time to your itinerary if you are interested. As well as the info in the guides and on-line websites where you have undoubtedly found recommendations, you might take a look at the Tripadvisor reviews of the site for current thoughts of other tourists. Sometimes you have to read between the lines, but I generally get an accurate picture of venues I am considering by reading several of these reviews.

Thanks for the feedback about Musee Cognacq-Jay. I wanted to add how much I appreciate your walking maps. They are very easy to read and seem an efficient yet comprehensive way to explore the different neighborhoods, something lacking in most travel guides. They also complement the informative text nicely. We plan to explore each one of them.

I loved the Cognacq-Jay when I visited There's an area in the rear of the museum that displays a collection of miniatures that Marie Jay collected. They fascinated me. So much so, that a guard came looking for me, I was there so long. He smiled when he realized how I was enjoying myself.

And btw, you're not talking to Rick Steves here. We are just volunteer posters who've traveled to France extensively and share our experiences and answer questions when we can.

Enjoy your trip!

I’m just going to point out that you seem to think that you responding to the people who wrote the books on here. The only thing that Rick’s staff does here is deal with spammers. Everybody else is just like you who uses the guidebook.

I do think that Rick and he admits it does selective editing. He picks the places he thinks are the most interesting. He’s very upfront about that. This is not a comprehensive guide to everything in Paris. I’m not sure that could actually exist as big as the city is, and as much as there is to see 😂

I had figured the reply to my comment about the Marias Walk might have been from a staff member, not Steve's himself. No need for the sarcastic attitude and emoji, Carol.

I was not being sarcastic. I was trying to be honest with you. I’m sorry, but apparently if you don’t like the response, you think it’s sarcastic and you think my friendly emoji was hateful.

But thank you so much for your incredibly friendly feedback
