Just for fun. Murder in Provence, a new series staring Roger Allam (Endeavor) and Nancy Carroll (Father Brown). It take place in and around Aix. Lovely scenery. Makes one want to book the next flight and go sit at a café in the sun. Amazon Prime.
Are you using a VPN with US Netflix, or are you on Netherland's?
Edit: Amazon--is it Netherlands or are you using a VPN?
In the US, it’s available on Amazon with a subscription to the britbox channel, which is $6.99 a month. Or, if you haven’t yet tried that channel, Amazon will let you try 1 week for free.
Thanks for the heads-up. On AcornTV is the cozy The Madame Blanc Mysteries, and it may be available on Amazon Prime. But don’t buy tickets yet to Sainte Victoire in the south of France as it is filmed in Malta. Still sunny 🙂
Bets, I'm using a VPN and subscribing to BritBox.
I am only willing to pay for one add on subscription at a time, so right now I have Acorn, but Britbox will be next -- thanks for the heads up as I am running out of Pie in the Sky and Midnight Diner and need a new series.
Unfortunately, I found the first episode unsatisfactory. I couldn't sit through it all.
We've had Acorn for years but added Britbox during the covid lockdown. It has a larger library of shows but Acorn has more from other countries like Australia, New Zealand and Canada. I watch both more than our other streaming services like Netflix and Amazon.
Have only watched the first episode of this series. I like the actors and will continue but trying to figure out why Roger Allam's character is a judge investigating crimes and whether the actors are supposed to be French or expat brits. Confusing. Loved Madame Blanc and can't wait to see the next season. I also like McDonald & Dobbs which takes place in Bath.
We maxed out my subscription tolerance during Covid so I won’t be seeing Murder in Provence yet. We did enjoy Madame Blanc Mysteries although we immediately recognized it wasn’t filmed in Provence but I thought they did a good job filming during Covid in the Malta area they chose.
cj-traveler, Yes, the title judge is confusing for us , but in French it's a juge d'instruction. Here's what Wikipedia has to say.
"In an inquisitorial system of law, the examining magistrate is a judge who carries out pre-trial investigations into allegations of crime and in some cases makes a recommendation for prosecution. The exact role and standing of examining magistrates varies by jurisdiction." Wikipedia
Thanx Nick and Bets for the explanations.
The series I LOVE is Murder In... It's on Mhz, another $ streaming service. Sigh. Each episode of the 9 seasons takes place in a different part of France. The scenery, town or country, is always interesting. Before beginning, I google the locales. The stories have different detective/police groups and often revolve around a local historical issue. Roman, pagan, medieval, .... Being French, toujours l'amour. Mhz has other interesting series - all foreign.
