We will be leaving Munich the latter part of September. Should we go to the Colmar Alsace region or to Lucerne? We will be leaving that City to go to Frankfurt for flights home. We have four nights. And may have to travel by train. Because I have a rare gastro intestinal disease I prefer not to be on an extended train ride. I understand the train from Munich to Lucerne is 8 - 9 hours long which is a huge stretch for me. I am welcome to any and all advice so slap it on me... please. Thanks for your time and help!

It is only 5 1/2 from Munich to Luzern if you take the morning EC train to Zurich and change there. Similar for Colmar. If you want short train journeys, head to Nuremberg for a few days. Transport to other places (Rothenburg, Bamberg, Bayreuth) is cheap and easy with the VGN Tagesticket Plus. Nuremberg to Frankfurt is just 2 hours on the ICE.
