Ok.. there are three main answers available.

First.. most will suggest you do this as an overnight trip.. its a great suggestion.. but not everyone has the time or will do to so. Many who choose to do this can combo it with a visit to the Bayeaux tapestries.. or combo in some DDay tour..

Secondly .. do it as a daytrip from Paris on your own.. rushed and a long day.. but you save money and can spend as much as time as you like there until you need to leave to get last train back.

And lastly.. . take a bus tour.. there are the big bus tours or smaller van tours. Both are expensive ( smaller group tour more so) , both are long days ( leaving by 6 -630 am and getting back into Paris by 8-9. However you don't have to figure anything out.. and you will get a reasonable amount of visit time there ( I think we got 3-4 hours.. ) , and you can sleep on bus.

I have done overnight and bus tour.. both have their place.

PS its Mont St Michel..

Sorry.. bus tours that are reputable and reliable.

Pariscityvisions
Francetourisme

Both are big bus tour companies.. but both also offer the smaller van tours.

Thanks to you both, Guess we should have mentioned that we don't rent cars so we were looking for a good tour out of Paris. We know it is expensive to do a tour from Paris, but looking at train travel and how long it would take,we want the all inclusive type of tour. So thanks for both answers.

Just to add an alternative to visit MSM from Paris (over the day, or a few days) : you can take a TGV train to Rennes (2h) or St Malo (2h30) and then take a bus if the schedule suits you, or meet a local guide to drive you so that you can have a look both to Saint Malo and MSM before you take your train back to Paris, from Rennes (http://visite.bretagne.free.fr/index.php/en/nature/mont-saint-michel.html). Of course the ideal solution is to spend at least a night to enjoy more in the region, otherwise the day is rather long...

I've used www.paris-trip.com before a few times and the service was always high quality. You don't really get a guide on some tours per say, but they get the job done.

We did it on our own as a day trip using the suggestion above for a Train to St Malo then the bus, only problem is that our train was 3 hours delayed leaving us 90 min to tour before catching the last bus. RS guidebook has a tour operator they suggest that does three stops with one being Mt. St. Michael, he was fast to respond to our email and I would probably just do his tour if we ever do it again. When I have access to my Email I will post his name.

Took the tour for 115 euros each. Definitely worth the price considering the way RS describes getting there on bus and train. Long ride but comfortable bus. Thanks for the replies. We don't ever rent cars.

Thank you for reporting back on your experience.

I didn't phrase it well, but I wasn't trying to urge you to rent a car. I was making sure you knew what the shortest possible highway travel time was! To me, I'd never do this out from Paris, but I'm glad you were pleased with your results. We saw MSM on a longer car trip to the west.
