MSM morning prayers

For anyone who has been in the last 6 months to a year, can you still join the monks and nuns for morning prayers? I'm guessing if so we can just ask at the ticket office for which door and what time? Thanks for any info!

Here is the link to the Monastic Fraternities of Jerusalem which runs the services, including the early morning Lauds service.

To attend the service, you walk up the stairs to the entrance to the abbey and wait until the Nun opens the door and beckons you in at 6:50. IF you are there when it is dark or rainy, have the flashlight on your phone out because there are no railings other than a center rope divider.

I will add that it has been years since I went with my RS group. We kind of got chewed out by the priest for not responding with the appropriate responses during the service. Well, it was in French and I'm not Catholic. I realized it really was not a tourist event as Rick mentions and felt a little embarrassed to be there.

Thanks for the info!

I'm not religious, though I am Catholic. I don't speak French, but do know some Latin pertaining to masses from my school days. I tend to really enjoy these types of masses because they just feel more authentic and spiritual to me. I'll check with my family to see if they want to go. I may be the only one of us attending.

It's definitely authentic! And it will be helpful since you know the service. I was reared as an Episcopalian so somewhat familiar but not enough to follow. I do enjoy going to Evensong when I'm in England, though, so I understand what you are saying.

And this would be perfectly easy to go to on your own if the rest of your group wants to sleep in.

Thanks so much Pam! It would be easy to go on my own and I'm not afraid to do that at all, so I'll tell everyone about it and let them decide.

jlkelman,
I am glad you appear to want to attend the services for the prayers, and not for the "tourist" experience. I wish you well. And Pam, I appreciate your pointing out the need for respect. Thank you.

Just noting it's not a mass. And while meaningful, it's not pretty singing. They will close the doors if you're not there waiting on time.
