I am very much in the early stages of considering a temporary move to Paris for 6 months to a year. I have an apartment available to me. Could anyone point me to some resources about moving to France? From a quick glance it appears travelers can only be there 90 days.i have family that lives in England and I have been to Paris once before recently. I appreciate any input!
You'll need a long-stay visa to stay longer than 90 days. Here are a couple websites with some good info:

There is no advantage in asking for a 6 month visa vs a 12 month, renewable visa. Just ask for the 12 month visa. This is were the process starts:
Thank you I will look at these resources. My father was French but has passed away. I’ve been looking into getting my citizenship but there is a document, the “Family Book” that I am unable to find that is required. The process to get a new one can take months it appears. I’m still looking into that process but hoping I can make the process quicker when I am there.
If your father was French, you are French.
The consulate has probably told you what documents you need to get a copy of the Livret de famille so you will be able to get your carte d’identité and passport. Hand carry in your carry-on bag every document you can imagine and more.
This doesn’t exactly fit your case, but it might help: private group on Facebook called “Applying for French Nationality.”
This is so encouraging thank you!!!
This is a travel site, you need a relocation site and there are plenty of those. Videos as well.
To obtain a copy of the "Livret de Famille" (Family Record Book), you need documents such as birth and marriage certificates, which you can obtain from the relevant town halls' Civil Registry offices.
However, once you have proof that at least one of your parents was French (which is the "right of blood"), in the form of a birth certificate, you probably no longer need a family record book. But this is likely just the beginning of a long process with the French administration.
Thank you, and yes I am fully aware this is not going to be a quick and easy process! Appreciate your input!
I know I got off topic, sorry!
French Connections HCB, https://frenchconnectionshcb.com, you can find them on YouTube as well.
Good Luck.
If you are truly adventerous and extremely flexible in lifestyle and attitude and very patient when confronted with problems .... sure, why not.
Otherwise you might want to go spend 3 weeks and see how you do. If that goes well, then spend the 6 months to a year.
When you get the visa do check if you stay will make you a tax resident. Not saying it will, but there is a very good chance yes. Then you will have other issues. Also if you use an investment house for your retirement fund, might be a good idea to never mention this to them if you end up as a tax residenet. Again, maybe, maybe not.
Then there are things like your mail in the states, your phone. Keep your US insurance or not. Will the visa put you on the French national plan or do you need private coverage. Do you want to also have private coverage even if you are on the national plan? Where is your car? Will it run when you get home.
I moved to Hungary 3 years ago and these are the things I dealt with. Doesnt matter much if its 8 months or 5 years, they can become issues.
