Moving to France or Germany with Pets

I am planning to move to the Alsace region (so my destination could be Germany or France) from California. I am bringing two cats with me. I am concerned about the long flight time. I am wondering of anyone has a thought about the shortest flight. I am think of having a layover day to break up the trip.

Spend a night on the east coast. The flight the next day will be in the range of six hours. Make sure you go through the hoops so that you can bring your cats with you.

My friend moved to France with her two cats. She did a non stop flight from Southern CA to Paris with them. Prior to going she got a sleep aide from the vet. The sleep aide was tested before she left to make sure it worked fine and it did. On flight day she gave it to them, they slept during the flight, and everything went fine. Way easier than she thought it would be. Also for her flight she could only have one animal per person, so a friend went with her since she was moving with two cats.

My experience moving my then 7 year-old cat to Germany was the same as The-other-Bob's was. We flew from SFO to Frankfurt, then from Frankfurt to Stuttgart. My cat went into hunker-down mode and was quiet the whole trip under the seat in a soft-sided carrier.

She obviously didn't enjoy the trip but seemed no worse for the wear, it was hotel living for 2 months that she really didn't care for. Cats are territorial animals. I'd try my best to have a calm living space available before you move your cats across the world if at all possible.
