Moving Normandy D-Day Tour with Overlord Tours

My husband and I took the full day "Band of Brothers" Overlord Tour with Mickael as our guide during our trip to France in May 2018.. This was a bucket list activity for us, as we are both history lovers, and my husband is retired military. Prior to our trip, we watched the series "Band of Brothers" as well as "Saving Private Ryan." I recommend that, as it gives great context and helps refresh your memory about the history. Another good pre-work movie would be "The Longest Day." The tour is small (about a half dozen people), and the guide tells wonderfully accurate stories of the events surrounding the D-Day invasion and the Normandy campaign "Operation Overlord." The grandfather of one of the members of our tour had been part of D-Day, so it was especially poignant for us to see this history firsthand. There was ample time at each site where we stopped, and the guide carried a binder with maps and photographs that helped us piece all the history together. It's an experience I won't soon forget. I normally prefer to skip the organized tour and move at my own pace (Rick Steves junkies like me can usually have a wonderful trip just using his guide books), but this was one situation where having the tour guide was truly invaluable. A must-do when in Normandy.

karen,

It's great to hear that you had such a wonderful tour with Overlord. This is exactly the reason that many of us here recommend taking a guided tour rather than just driving around and looking at the beaches.
