Am I more likely to encounter bothersome mosquitos in Arles or Isle Sur le Sorgue?
You don't say what time of the year you are going, which would help to answer your question.
I've been to both in September and did have issues with mosquitos in Arles. It was so bad you couldn't eat outside. The locals also recommended we stay away from the Camargue.
I heard the mosquitos can be so bad they drove one guy insane and he cut off his ear and had to be committed to a mental facility.
Larry, that is exactly the type of information I was seeking. We will be there Sept. 29-October 5. I guess we should stay in Isle Sur le Sorgue rather than Arles.
Richard, that was funny. And all this time we thought Van Gogh cut off his ear because he was insane....little did we know he was just trying to swat a mosquito buzzing around his ear, and he accidentally swatted at it with a knife!
This topic got my attention. We will be staying in Arles for a week at the end of August-early September....is that considered a bad time for Mosquitos as well? Just like to be prepared!
Just make sure you have a hotel room with AC, so you don't have to sleep with the windows open (windows in most French hotels in that area don't have window screens).
