Montmartre walk

I borrowed heavily from a 2017 Rick Steves book, but I added a few things. I have never been to Montmartre, have you? Would you add anything? Take away anything? Oh, and I think this can all be done on a Monday, when most of the big museums are closed.

There are free walking tours of Montmartre. We did one. I find that looking constantly in a guidebook to follow directions and read about the places you see is distracting in the overall. It is like reading your encyclopedia while walking as opposed to hearing a TED talk on the same subject.

Part of the fun of Montmartre is also walking in small streets "at random". There are some highlights, but few actual "sights" besides Sacré Coeur.

As some have asked, the link to google maps is fine. At least, it was at the time of this writing. ;)

If you look for “France with Vero Montmartre” on YouTube, Vero has done a number of Montmartre walks. Sometimes it’s easier to absorb new things if you’ve seen pictures or videos. She is a RIck Steves guide that started doing this during the pandemic.

Rick and Frommers both have walking tours, mix and match. I bet he also has a podcast headset version.

Paris Walks offers a Montmartre walk on Wednesdays if that would work for you. Maybe on other days as the season advances. It's an excellent walk. I agree that having a guide makes things a lot easier than trying to follow a route from a book. But your route looks quite doable and interesting.

I agree that the Paris Walks walking tour of Montmartre is very good, and you can go to their website to see their tours which run on Wednesdays and Sundays in Montmartre.

I took the Paris Walks tour of Montmartre and enjoyed it immensely. I agree that having a good guide was critical to my enjoyment. The guide was so knowledgeable and I learned more than I did from reading the guidebook and doing a self-walk.

hey hey cerastez
you'll love montmartre, one of my favorite places. do sit at a cafe at place du tertre for a glass of champagne, appetizer and people watch, where the artists gather to paint and sell, lots of cafes, restaurants, shops, "free entertainment".

I had been to Montmartre twice before I took Rick Steves self-guided walk and saw so much more than the previous times I’d been there.
