Montmartre Transportation and Hills

I can't find my Paris R.S. book! I've never been to Montmartre, but I've been to Paris. I assume that the funicular on Montmartre take us up and take us down. Should tickets be purchased in advance? Is Montmartre itself hilly, as I have bad knees and need to figure out if I can do Montmartre?

I'd like to go into the Basilica, Montmartre Museum and Renoir's Gardens and the Moulin Rouge.
Can these be visited in 1 day? If I did the circular walk around Montmartre, how long might it take just to walk the perimeter?

Thanks.

The ticket for the funicular is just a regular metro ticket (or a use of your Navigo Découverte if you are buying one of those).. no need to purchase in advance.

Yes, Montmartre is hilly. The Basilica sits on top of the highest hill in Paris -- that's why it can be seen from so many places in the city.

If you goggle “France with Vero Montmartre” there are videos she posted of her walks around Montmartre in 2021. That might give you an idea of the terrain.

A bus line (#40 IIRC) snakes around Montmartre. It can help. The top of the hill around place du Tertre and the basilica is quite flat. The streets between Abbesses metro exit (which has elevators) and the bottom of the funicular are also reasonably level. So is rue des Abbesses in the other direction.
All in all, you can probably manage.
