Planning to revisit Paris for about 2-3 days in November week of Thanksgiving. Might stay in apartment somewhere at rue Gabrielle & rue Chappe. Your thoughts, anyone who has stayed in Montmartre?
Blessings!
Peter Paul, I have not stayed in Montmartre, but after going to Google maps and having a look around the area you reference, I would certainly like to stay there. The only "down side" would be not being central to key sights, etc, but that is not a big deal, imho. It looks like a great spot, have a good trip.
I have been tempted by some affordable room rates, but not yet tried the hotels in this neighborhood. In addition to the metro, Rick's France book suggests that buses #30 and 67 from Pigalle Metro stop can be handy for the Louvre, Marais, Arc de Triomphe, or Trocadero.
My husband and I and another couple stayed in an apartment advertised as "Montmartre" that was very close to the Pigale Metro.
We're all adults, and pretty open minded. We had a great time, but did have to walk past a number of sex shops to get to the Metro, and there was what appeared to be a business that was very welcoming to men next door. (My husband found this an absolute riot, and emailed his friends in the U.S. that he had "The Best Wife in the World" because I was the one who booked the apartment.)
We were never in any danger, but I don't know whether you'll find this as amusing as we did, so just wanted to let you know. This was
two years ago, and we have friends who live in Paris who tell us that Real Estate/Apartment rentals have become SO expensive, that even this district has become so expensive that these places are getting more rare.
LOVE Paris!
