Greetings, we will be docking in Provence/Marseille France from 8am - 6pm. We are considering taking a train to Monte Carlo. Is it possible to walk around Monte Carlo, visit a casino, and see the major sites on our own???? Has anyone successfully done this on their own? Or, is an excursion the way to go??? Many thanks!!!

We are also docking in Cannes France for one day, would it be smarter to go to Monte Carlo from that port?????

Yes. It's 3 hours each way by train from Marseille once you are in thé train. Add 1 or 2 hours to get to the station and wait for the next train. Better from Cannes.

We just did the hop on/hop off bus. It was great! Changing of the guard is at 11:55...FYI.

If it's an absolute must to go to Monte Carol, it's going to be easier from Cannes.
I find Monte Carlo to be a bore. It's pretty, yes, but so is much of the Cote d'Azur. Marseille is brilliant---and there's so much to see. Cannes----meh. I'd personally go to Nice over Cannes or Monaco.
