Mont St. Michel to Rennes

Hello. I will be traveling between Mont St. Michel and Rennes by car in July. Is there anything that is a "must see" between these two points that I may not be aware of?

Each traveler should choose his own must-sees, depending on what he is interested in.

I enjoyed day-trips to both Fougeres and Vitre while I was staying in Rennes. They are picturesque towns and I saw remarkably few tourists in July 2017. Fougeres is closer to being on the path from Mont-St-Michel.

I visited the Brittany American military cemetery in Saint James when I traveled between these two places in 2017. It contains the remains of almost half the number of WWII dead than the more visited Normandy American Cemetery. Very sobering and contemplative, and it is a small diversion off of your route.

Rennes is in Bretagne, MsM is in Normandy (by about 100 meters). There's a lot in Bretagne to see. Dinan is a wonderful walled town. It's about 50 K N of Rennes. If you are going by car, it would be a great 1-2 day stop. Bretagne is a primarily agricultural/fishing province. If you went to the coast, SW of MsM, there are many small towns which are nice but not exceptional.

In addition to Fougères, you could also consider Dol de Bretagne or Combourg, with a slight detour on the way from Rennes to Mont St Michel. St Malo and Cancale are a bit further but well worth seeing especially if you have an additional day.
