Mont St Michel overnight on Sunday night

Based on the recommendation of the Rick Steves consultant and this forum we are planning for an overnight stay on MSM for one night. We arrive Sunday afternoon and leave Monday morning to avoid the crowds. Looks like MSM shuts down on Monday and last event on Sunday is early in the afternoon. Will be able to see things like the inside of the Abbey as I cant find out if it will be open or not Sunday afternoon or Mon morning. Any guidance from people who have been on the island on Sunday night to Monday morning? Also is it safe to leave some of our luggage in the car parked in the Hotel overnight lot so we can travel light on the island?

The hours that the Abbey is open depends on when you are going. Open daily - May 2-Aug 31 from 9:00- 19:00, outside of those dates 9:30-18:00, last entry is one hour before closing so either 17:00 (5pm) or 18:00 (6pm) depending on when you're there. That's from their website.

We were not in MSM on Sunday night but we did leave our large luggage locked in our car and took only essentials on the island as we had to park and walk. You will not want to be toting a large cumbersome bag all of the way to the island as you walk so take only your essentials for 1 night with you. You will be locking your car in a gated parking lot overnight so your luggage should be safe there out away in your trunk.
