Mont St. Michel Family of 6 by car rental

Car rental is our best option to travel to MSM!
With that being said, where do you suggest we choose as a pick up location?
Have you booked online? Any hidden fees once you arrived at pick up?
Thanks everyone!

With six people and, I assume luggage, a rental car would be much easier and, perhaps, less expensive or a similar cost. We picked our rental car up to go Normandy at a Paris train station, don’t recall the name. Also are you planning to visit the D-Day beaches too? June 6 is the anniversary of the D-Day landings so that area may be more crowded.

I find www.autoeurope.com to clearly state all the rules and options. They're a US consolidator that works with most major rental agencies. You can also call them any time.

Autoeurope is a good rental option. There are no hidden fees as long as you actually read the contract or pickup voucher. There will be charges, payable at drop off, which are not included in the quote. For example, there is a road tax at somewhere around 3€ per day, a 40€ fee for picking up at either a train station or airport, and an environmental fee if you select a car with automatic transmission. All of this is explained in the documentation.

There are basically two options for departing Paris for Normandy, taking either A13 or A14 which has an extra 9€ toll. Easier is probably A14, picking up a rental office somewhere near Porte Maillot, taking ave de Charles de Gaulle and preceding straight to la Défense and A14. Take a look at a map and I think that you will agree that it is very easy.

Alternatively, pickup somewhere in the 14th or 15th arrondissement, proceed south along any route to the périphérique, taking it west to Porte d´Auteuil and A13 to Normandy. You can pickup at Gare Montparnasse but you will incur the location surcharge.

The autoeurope site does not offer vehicles large enough for us. I even emailed them directly.

We are going to use Dollar Rental. I have read the fine print and do not see anything of concern based on everyone's suggestions and after reading the articles related to rentals in Europe. Thanks all!
