Mont St Michel-By train for overnight stay

I am traveling to Mont St Michel by TGV from Montparnasse, for an overnight stay at La Mere Poulard on MSM. I will arrive around noon (before hotel check-in at 4 pm). I am getting conflicting info from the hotel about dropping off luggage prior to check-in. They say check-in is at a different hotel site in town (not on the island). Has anyone traveled without a car for MSM for an overnight stay?

I understand the train drops me in Pontorson, then I take a shuttle to the passerelle. Will I be able to get on/off the shuttle if I have to stop in town? I will have some light luggage (rollaboard + daypack) and am aware of the walking and stairs on the island. Also any advice on travel back to Pontorson on the weekend (Saturday) - it looks like I could not book an outbound ticket from MSM to Pontorson. Thanks for any help.

I visited Mont Saint Michel overnight in 2019, so I'm not 100% sure if this information is still in date, but we took the train from Montparnasse to Dol de Bretagne and then there was a bus that took us directly from the station in Dol de Bretagne to just across the causeway. From there there was a little shuttle that ran across the causeway (a very interesting bus that could go both directions without turning around- it had a driver's seat on both ends). Your hotel is right by where the shuttle drops you off on the island so you won't have to go far with bags. I'm not sure about Pontorson but Dol de Bretagne may be another option for you.
