Mont Saint-Michel - Where to Stay...

I plan to visit Mont Saint-Michel at the end of April and will be in the area for one night before heading to Normandy Beach. Would you recommend staying on the Mont-Saint Michel island? If so, where?

We have been to the Mont twice and definitely recommend spending a night. The first time we stayed at the hotel run by Mere Poulard and liked the room for the quiet location and it was nicely furnished, comfortable, etc. On the second trip there were no rooms available so we stayed at Mouton Blanc and the room was noisy and not good. We had to leave a window open to keep it cool enough and had a pigeon fly into the room--a nest was on the window sill. The restaurant there was fine but I cannot recommend the one at Mere Poulard. Food was inferior and the price of the omelet was ridiculous and it was possibly the worst one I've ever eaten.

Spending a night in the area is well worth, but not necessarily on the Mont itself, especially if you have your own car (to be able to stay late on the island /arrive early in the morning).
You could stay in the area, but in hotels / B&B /restaurant with better value than in Mont St Michel, for example in Pontorson, Dol de Bretagne, Combourg...

In case you travel with a car: I stayed a few years back in B&B Le Rayon de Soleil in Bas-Courtils, a 10 minute drive from the parking lot at the mainland near Le Mont-Saint-Michel and really good value for the money. In April you will have plenty to choose outside holidays.
