Mont Blanc Tunnel Closure

I see posts of people travelling to Chamonix so thought I would share that the Mont Blanc Tunnel will be closed beginning September 4 for fifteen weeks. This will impact anyone wishing to travel to Courmayeur, for example, during a trip to Chamonix.

This is a message I received from the Courmayeur visitor center as my trip actually ends in Courmayeur:

"from September 4th the Mont Blanc tunnel will be closed for 15 weeks. We haven’t yet the timetable between Courmayeur and Chamonix (maybe through the Great Saint Bernard tunnel).

You should send us a new message at the end of August to have more dtails."

I am funding if difficult and expensive (400+ euros) to get transport from Courmayeur to the Geneva Airport, for example, on September 8. I could always roll the dice and hope the cable cars are all running, but that is a bit risky.

Hope this helps someone.

I think you would be better off finding a flight from an airport that is on the same side of the Alps as Courmayeur...

Relying on the cable cars is beyond risky. Do not do this.
Try flying out of Turin instead, or skipping Courmayeur altogether and replace with somewhere in the Valais, Switzerland.

I am doing the Tour du Mont Blanc so am locked in to my locations. I did look at changing my flight to leave from Milan but prices were prohibitive.

I suspect that the Flixbus schedules have been posted automatically and are
not reflecting the tunnel closures. If the tunnel is closed there is no way you
can get from Courmayeur to Chamonix in 45 minutes.

If you can get to Bourg St Maurice, the train can get you to Geneva. The train is
$42, but I suspect a taxi will be pricey. However, it seems better than trying to
get to Chamonix through Martigny.

Ah, I see now.
If you are hiking clockwise from Courmayeur, would you be able to finish in La Fouly (CH), skipping the final Val Ferret leg back to Courmayeur? This would solve the logistics issue.
And if you have to travel through Martigny, to get to Geneva you just hop on the train there, staying in Switzerland. No need to head back to Chamonix first!
