What is the dress code in the casino?
Years ago--2006--I was there on a Saturday night in June. No tuxes or ball gowns, just casual wear. I had to surrender my passport and pay 10 Euros to enter. The casino was virtually empty, btw. I heard a roar and followed it to a large private room that had TVs. France had just scored in the FIFA World Cup.
We were there in May this year. We went online prior and signed up for their Monte Carlo card (free) so we did not have to pay the 18E fee to go behind the “free area” to the tables. We went about 4 pm (dress code changes at 7 pm). That being said we followed the dress code posted on line for the afternoon (Holey or faded jeans, tank tops, sweat suits, sportswear, shorts and beach dresses, running shoes and sandals and flip-flops for men are not permitted), but saw many in athletic shoes.
If wanted I can offer more info on our visit. Great people watching and maybe silly but fun to order the James Bond “shaken not stirred” martini (on the menu).
lwyss, I believe the Rick Steves guidebook indicates (at least 5 years ago) that the dress code is more formal and strict in the evening. A sport coat or suit for men, for example.
Edit: Renee beat me to some of that info while i was typing.
Lindy, what time of day/night were you there? A few years ago, we visited Monaco from Nice, but spent the rainy day at the aquarium, not the casino.
Thank you all. Very helpful. Glad I don't have to take a tux.. That James Bond martini sounds like a good idea!
