we are staying in the heart of paris for a week, and looking for several restaurants in paris, moderately priced. nick b.
We enjoyed some really good Breton crepes at the Breizh Cafe near the Odeon. I believe there vare 7 or 8 in Paris. Prices are reasonable and the savory buckwheat crepes are very tasty. We also had lunch once, near the Cluny Museum at a restaurant called Mucha Cafe. Good salad, poached fish, roast chicken, good service and fair-priced. This was in 2023 however, so perhaps things have changed, but we were very pleased at both places.
If you like oysters, there is an oyster bar called Ostra in St. Germain where I recently had 3 beautiful Normandy oysters, a basket of French bread and butter, and a glass of wine for 12 euros. They had other specials on the menu as well.
Last month, my husband and I had a nice picnic in the Tuileries Garden. We picked up two simple but amazing ham and Cantal cheese sandwiches at Le Petit Vendome (8 rue des Capucines) and walked 5 minutes to the park. Considered by some to be the best in Paris, we stood in line for about 20 minutes to order our take-out-only sandwiches. I don’t remember exactly how much we paid for each sandwich, it was around €8 each. Le Petit Vendome also has a sit down restaurant that looked to be reasonably priced.
Look for the bouillons. They're quite inexpensive and serve traditional French working-people food, usually very good. I particularly enjoyed Le Petit Bouillon Pharamond, and Bouillon Chartiers is widely praised.
Paris is a city where you can still find excellent deals on meals - especially at lunchtime.
We'll be in Paris next spring. Do any of the museums have a cafe? In other cities we've been impressed by the quality of food and prices in those types of establishments. I can still remember eating in the crypt of St. Paul's in London 26 years ago, but more recently we've found museum cafes in Athens and Dublin.
I can recommend Chez Janou in the 3rd arrondissement. The address is 2 Rue Roger Verlomme, 75003. We went there twice on our last trip and the food is delicious. If you like chocolate mousse theirs is probably the best I’ve ever had.
Edited to add that reservations are recommended, but not absolutely necessary. Our first visit we were able to be seated. When we decided to return another night we made a reservation.
Restaurants have to post their menus (and usually have a sandwich board out with the special of the day).
Andrea’s Chez Janou recommendation is excellent - one of the best steak frites I’ve had. For anyone who prefers to eat dinner early we discovered a little hack. We made online reservations for the last lunch seating — at 4:30 pm.

The Orsay has one, but its food although adequate is neither memorable nor inexpensive.
I couldn't imagine what "moderately priced" means in euros per person. My guess is that it would mean 40€ to 50€ per person without drinks, but everyone has his own ideas.

Nicholas,
We were very happy with the cafe at the Rodin Museum and Gardens for lunch. Fresh and tasty and not expensive.
I haven't eaten at the restaurant at the Orsay but the cafe with the clock on the top floor has always been a reliable place for decent food and it isn't terribly expensive. I have a French friend who always takes me to exhibit there on her Carte Blanche and I always get her lunch at the cafe.
We don't go to super expensive places -- our celebration splurge dinners are at l'Initial where a multi course tasting meal without wine is about 70 Euro or Coretta in the 17th on MLK Park which has a great chef and now has menus as well as a la carte options -- menus are 50 and 70. 70 for the tasting menu. We have never had a bad meal here and often very interesting ones.

As far as the Orsay cafe, can I say they have delicious iced tea which is pretty hard to find in Europe ...
