Loco2.com won't let me book trains more than 3 months in advance but iDTGV bookings open 6 months ahead. Is there any way to combine the two? Or is the saving on iDTGV not worth the nuisance of separate ticketing? In mid-June I want to travel by train from Sarlat via Libourne to Paris-Montparnasse and then Paris-Bercy to Auxerre. The Libourne-Paris segment is on TGV. My preference is to book through Loco2.com with my UK debit card. Should I forget trying to snag iDTGV now and do it all through Loco2.com 3 months ahead?
There's no reason why you shouldn't book the two tickets separately, I do similar things all the time. Since they're both SNCF it shouldn't cause a problem if there's a delay - it's not like air travel where if the whole trip isn't on a single ticket the airlines will ignore you if there's disruption.
Since the iDTGV routes are limited, it only makes sense that you might have to "mix" your booking. But I don't see Libourne to Paris as an iDTGV route - but I do see tickets available for mid-June on a regular TGV for 20.00€.
And checking further, using www.captaintrain.com , you can book a mid-June trip from Sarlat to Paris for 42.80€.
Belated thanks, Philip and Tripatty.
Neither Capitaintrain or Loco2.com will let me book the whole journey until 3 months ahead. Should I book the TGV section separately and add the SNCF trains when I able to in mid-March? If it is possible, I'm concerned that the 3 separate tickets bought via either of these websites would end up costing more than if booked as a single journey and there would be the further complication of ensuring enough connection time at each transfer station. Advice would be welcome.
