Meuse Argonne American Cemetery

My wife and I are on the best of Eastern France tour starting September 2. We have two extra days in Reims. She has a great uncle buried at the Meuse Argonne American Cemetery at Romagne-sous-Montfaucon. It appears to be about 80 miles east on A4 from Reims. We are debating going there. Public transportation would probably get us to Verdun. Not sure if there is any bus service to this area. We also are consider renting a car and driving ourselves. Any opinions?

Thanks, Bill Weidert

I have visited this cemetery using a rental car. Driving in that part of France was not difficult. I saw perhaps one other visitor during the hour I was there, and it's the largest American military cemetery in Europe. In terms of visitors, it's altogether different from visiting the cemetery at Omaha Beach. The men buried at Romagne so deserve to be remembered and honored, so I am glad you are going.

Thanks Elizabeth. I doubt if any member of the family has been there since WWI ended.
