I know the RER-C to Versailles is a different ticket. We plan on getting a carnet of tickets so we won't have to get in ticket lines during our 2 day stay after our RS BOE21 day tour. Can we buy our RER ticket at the same time as we buy the carnet? We won't be going to Versailles until the last day so we won't be using it that first day.
The tickets are good forever. You can buy all the tickets you know you will need on arrival e.g. get the RER ticket into town from CDG, buy a carnet of t+ tickets you can use in Paris, get your Versailles tickets at the same time and your return ticket to the airport if that applies. I have bought tickets one year and used them the next with no problem.
Thank you, Janet!
Great info re: getting all the tix at the same time. We've never been to Paris before. When we purchase the tickets for Versailles, is it just a RER-C ticket, or do we need more info than that. I know we'll be going to the Versailles Chateau Rive Gauche. We don't need to specify the date/time or anything like that. And we'll need 2 tickets, right? One out and one back.
Thanks for the help here.
You will need to specify that you need a ticket from central Paris to Versailles Rive-Gauche, as there are many stations on Line C which are in different travel zones. You might need to state what day you want to travel, but no need to limit it to specific trains.
When you are going to Versailles, you get one ticket, each way, from central Paris to Versailles Rive Gauche. This ticket will get you onto the Metro, then to the RER (have to re-insert your ticket), then let you out the RER gates at Versailles (again, have to re-insert your ticket).
RER-C is a train line, with multiple branches and many stops. So, you need to specify exactly which stations you are starting and ending from. Here's a map of the RER system; everything in yellow is line C: http://parisbytrain.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/paris-rer-map-2014.pdf
No need to state what day you want to travel.
RER tickets are not priced by zone -- they are priced by specific destination e.g. Disney and CDG are both in zone 5 but one costs 10 Euro and one about 7.50. A ticket bought for one destination in a zone cannot be used for another. So for Versailles you get a specific ticket Paris/Versailles Chateau-Rive Gauche (they are in the process of switching the name of that destination)
