Metro Pass in Paris

Hello:
I have often used weekly passes in European cities. But it seems the Paris one is a bit more complicated. Is there a weekly pass you can buy without a photo ID?

Someone mention long lines at ticket counters. Can you also pass the passes at machines.

Thank you, Gerry

Yes, there's the Navigo weekly pass (runs Monday to Sunday) You can get it on your phone using the official transport app, You can also buy a card and then add value with your phone. Not sure about ticket machines, haven't used them for quite a while.

You have to buy all tickets and passes at machines. All of the machines have an English option. In the case of the Navigo Découverte, for instance, you purchase the pass, and the machine ejects a receipt. You take the receipt to a window where the clerk gives you the pass kit. Sometimes the clerk will put the pass together. Other times, if it's busy, you need to do it yourself.

It's dead simple. Bring a head shot of yourself that's a little smaller than a passport photo. You can even crop a passport photo to fit.
You stick your picture on the space with the adhesive and print your name in the space provided, fold it and insert it into the plastic case. Et voilà.

I've never seen murderously long lines at a Métro window.

Can you buy a 10-ticket pass at the machines in the metro stations?

I am looking for some discount but am trying to keep things as simple as possible. For some of use, using phone apps takes some time. I just downloaded the apps for IDF Mobilities, Ticket sans contact, and My Navigo Tickets. I simply want to buy a package of some kind and not worry about a passport photo.

The zone 1-5 weekly Navigo pass is valid for any Monday to Sunday, cost is 30.75€. This pass may be loaded onto a reusable Navigo Découverte card (5€), or a smartphone using either the Ile de France Mobilités app or the Bonjour RATP app. All of these options require a photo. You may also purchase fares using either of the apps.

Only day passes loaded onto the Navigo Easy card are available without a photo. You may also load single tickets t+ (2.15€) onto the Easy card or 10 tickets t+ for 17.50€. Paper tickets t+ are still available at 2.15€ each.

You can make a photocopy of any passport-like photo.

The rules specifically prohibit the use of photocopies. I believe that the intent is to guarantee that what you use clearly identifies you. You can be fined if your photo is blurry or other than an easily identifiable likeness.

If I understand correctly, one can still buy individual tickets at machines at the metro stations.

Why not go to YouTube and watch buying a metro pass in Paris. I don’t get it. Probably over half the questions ask here can be answered by just watching a YouTube video.

Just a note. Navigo Easy cards can be bought and reloaded at some of the ticket machines. (They say that on the outside of the machine to assist you )

The only place I’ve seen incredibly long lines at ticket machines is Gare du Nord. If you are buying there and someone wants to help you be careful. There is some official help but there are also a lot of scammers helping themselves to your stuff and money

I have seen long lines at Gare du Nord near the Eurostar arrival. There are plenty of ticket kiosks in the terminal but everyone arriving on the Eurostar seems to want to only use the few kiosks near the arrival platform. If you simply walk away from the crowds, there are always available kiosks, and a service window where you may interact with ticket staff.

The RER station at CDG's terminal 2 can also be very crowded at certain times. To avoid the crowds, take the CDGVAL to Roissypôle, the other RER station where crowds tend to be smaller.

Hello:
I got brave and install the Ile de France Mobilite app on my android phone. Created an account etc. When I went to add a Weekly Pass to my phone, it keeps saying Purchase Unsuccessful. Anyone have such an experience and were able to solve it? Thanks.

Wait until you arrive in France before making any purchases with the app.

The Easy is not a pass but a card on which you can load tickets or a day pass. I bought mine loaded with a carnet of metro/bus tickets from the information clerk. While they don't sell tickets, for the Easy they will sell it to you with tickets loaded with a credit card. There are machines that dispense the Easy but not every station has them. My card is hard plastic like a credit card. I think some of them including the ones from machines are cardboard. but that is second hand info.

"...one can still buy individual tickets at machines at the metro stations." That's exactly what I do. No problems at all buying these paper tickets and paying with the credit card. I don't use apps. I get the paper tickets. The machines are linguistically "equipped." ie, English is available along with other languages.

Sometimes there are long lines at ticket counters,.... not interested in that. I go use the machine instead. Fewer people use the machines.

Hello: Finally was able to buy the Navigo Weekly pass on my Android phone. I was trying to buy with a credit card that often goes out to Verified by Visa for security reasons. But it wasn't happening here. So I try with a debit card and it worked. Great because otherwise just buying individual tickets would be prohibitive for a long stay.

I may have had a problem validating on a bus one time so I will keep an eye on that in the future.

Buying for the smartphone was nice because you didn't need to buy a pass first. Also taking a selfie worked OK.

I was in the metro today to buy the 30 euro weekly pass. I was told by an agent that it is for sale only Monday through Thursday and becomes valid on Friday
Since I’m outside those days she sold me
Navi go easy
The card costs 2euro and it’s loaded with 10 tickets the total was 19euro and change ( I don’t recall the exact price)
Adding more is an option
It doesn’t work outside the districts, for instance - you just buy a round trip should you want to go to Versailles

This is not true. You can buy it for the current week through Thursday and it is valid for the rest of that week. If you buy it on Friday or Saturday, it is valid starting the following Monday. So you could have bought it today or charged it today for next week. You would hardly buy it today for this week since you would only have till midnight Sunday.

Diana - I am going to assume that an employee of the RATP knows how fares work and that you likely misunderstood. Allow me to correct the statement for the benefit of anyone reading:

The 30.75€ weekly pass may be purchased Monday (actually Friday of the previous week) through Thursday for the current week. Purchases Friday or later become valid for the following Monday to Sunday period.

The reusable Navigo Easy card costs 2€ and may be loaded with 10 tickets t+ at 17.35€, airport bus tickets, or any day pass. Adding is an option.

When using the RER network, you are limited to stations within Paris (zone 1) when boarding with a ticket t+. The RERs outside Paris and Transilien trains require a point to point ticket, limited to a maximum of 5€ (other than to airports).
