When we arrive at Gare du Nord we will take the Metro to our hotel near St Germain des Pres. We will have small carry on suitcases and backpacks. We will do this and not a taxi because one of the things we are very interested in is the Metro system.
But being inexperienced we would love advise on:
How do we buy tickets? Can we use our phones and credit cards and do we need a separate card for each adult, as in London?
Any other suggestions for this route?

Get the Navigo Easy Card on your phone or a plastic one from a kiosque at Gare Du Nord (it is very busy a chaotic station so watch out for pick pockets who create diversions) similar to the Oyster in London
