Menton, France - Fete Nationale

We will be in Menton, France on July 14,2022 and are curious about what to expect as far as Fete Nationale. Understanding the COVID situation could affect nearly anything.

We are arriving on 7/13 and leaving 7/18 so will find our first full day there will also be the holiday. Will restaurants be open? Does the city do anything in the way of celebrations or fireworks (in an typical year). We will be there with our 9 year old daughter and some of the events could be fun for her. We also want to make sure we are planning around restaurant closures if the majority of them close. I know events won't be planned this early, but trying to get my head around what it might be like to be there during an important holiday.

Obviously - as stated in my question. Sometimes I hate asking things in this forum. I am looking for information in a typical year.

There are fireworks on the beach and concerts/ dances normally. I don't remember about restaurants because we visit family there and eat at home, but I imagine there are restaurants and cafés open. And you can always cross the border to Ventimille in Italy to eat.

Thank you! I also did not think of Italy if we are finding restaurants closed, great idea. My ever planning daughter was already talking about 4th of July plans and I had just mentioned to her that we may also get to celebrate a French holiday as well and since she gets her planning instincts from me I started becoming curious of what (possibly) to expect.

I can’t give you details about the Fete Nationale day, but I spent a wonderful day in Menton. Be sure walk through the upper, east section of the city where the gorgeous sunset colors of buildings are located.

Here’s info from 2019 on-line:

Tree of Life - Pyrotechnic Show

Arbor Vitae, the Tree of Life, all in treated steel. A deliberately rusted raw material with mirror leaves that sparkle in the night. In its slender branches, 4 drums, two violinists and 4 acrobats who unfold their aerobatics through the story told to the rhythm of percussions. This evocation of the tree of life, a distant symbol of the wild and vegetal man, vibrates and resonates, is adorned with fairy colors and ablaze with flames and sparks. The grandiose and majestic tree of life spins around itself to give life to the artists who tell its story ...

Esplanade des Sablettes: 9.45 p.m.

Ball of July 14 by the Amicale des Sapeurs-Pompiers de Menton

Ball with the Team Funk Orchestra, Esplanade Francis Palmero: 8:00 p.m.

Fireworks, Sablettes Bay: 10:30 p.m.

Thanks! I keep looking around online and hadn't found anything like this. Very useful (as a mental picture).

Very much looking forward to Menton. We will be coming off of a 5 day Loire Valley bike trip so wanted to find somewhere we could relax and enjoy the coast before heading to Paris to end our trip. It seems like such the perfect place for that. Seems like a very special place!

There are a couple of rather large gardens on hillsides in Menton, one east of the center and one west of the center. I enjoyed them, and there were few other visitors in May 2019. The historic area of Menton, however, was crawling with foreign tourists, many of whom seemed to be British. My bet is that lots of places will be open for you.

Hi, when I search on-line I googled Bastille Day - probably more info using that name for the holiday.
