Men's day pack / messenger bag, etc recommendation

Not really sure where to post this- so figured I would post it where I am traveling- Paris!

What sort of day pack or bag do you use during the day? We will be traveling with our 4 year old, so need something to throw some snacks and water in. We won't keep anything of value in it (money, phones, etc) - but also want to reduce the temptation for someone else to try to find out.

I was thinking either a typical trade show sling bag - something like this as we have sveral

Or would something like this be better so it is on my front vs a backpack?

or any other recommendations?

I am all ears!

I would be looking for a more comfortable backpack that can carry a water bottle, at least. You’ll be wearing this for hours, so look for one with more comfortable straps. One with a zippered pocket on the side that goes against your back can keep valuables more secure. We used a locking backpack on one trip where we were spending a lot of time on metros.

thanks- I do have a couple of traditional backpacks - the jansport ones, and another comfortable smaller hiking pack - I just was wondering if wearing one on your back is inviting someone who might want to see what is inside (again, we wouldn't put anything of significant value in such). I guess worst case it gets opened and they find nothing...

I got a Timbuk2 “Lightweight Flight Messenger Bag” some years ago and it’s one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. Quality is incredible, waterproof and easy to clean, has several hidden pockets. It’s not big, but easily holds a bottle of wine and a baguette. I can scrunch it down and stuff it into carryon if needed. I use it everyday now and it’s still in great shape. They have a number of “sling” style options too that might fit the bill. Highly recommend the product.

I use an ordinary backpack.

With whatever bag you decide to use, don't wear it on your back in a crowd. Not only can it be considered an invitation, but you're a lot more likely to clobber someone with the bag when it's on your back.

My husband wear a messenger bag that I got from like Eddie Bauer quite a while ago. It looks very stylish in Paris I think.
We never wear a backpack to avoid theft and, like Simon said, stuffed backpacks are quite annoying to those around you. But you don't need to stuff your messenger bag anyway; assuming mom has some sort of light bag, too? Just bring a kids water bottle that won't leak bc you kinda have to put drinks on the side.

ps that trade show bag is hilarious!
