Meds

I'm going to France next week for three weeks. I take a LOT of prescription meds and the pill bottles take up huge amounts of space. I'd rather put them in small plastic bags with a med label in each bag. Anyone foresee issues with TSA or customs anywhere?

No problem? I can’t speak for every government agent with whom you may have contact, but I see a big problem if anyone actually checks your luggage. I would leave any medication in its originally dispensed container. Make it as easy as possible for any inspector, even if it is not as easy for you. You will not want to waste valuable vacation time explaining yourself.

Tocard is technically right here. Traveling often internationally since 1960 no one even in the days when luggage was routinely searched has ever looked at my meds and I carry a lot these days for long trips, multiple prescriptions. BUT if they were to do so, you would have issues if they were not properly labeled. So you take your chances doing this. One possibility is to have your pharmacist print bottle labels for you and put those on the bags. Then you would have your prescription information without the giant bottles. Another possibility is to ask the pharmacist to put the meds in tiny bottles. Mine usually come in fairly large bottles which are filled about a fifth of the way full. They do have smaller bottles.

If any of your meds are controlled substances or meds likely to be abused then you need to be more conservative about how you handle them. Maybe even a doctor's letter on letterhead.

As long as you have them labeled, I doubt you’ll have a problem. We do it all the time. IS there a risk? I think VERY slight.

The authorities are mainly concerned with drugs that could end up on the streets, like cocaine, fentanyl, ecstasy etc.. They are not overly concerned with our blood pressure and cholesterol meds. But you could always run into a guy who is having a bad day so use common sense.. If you have pain meds or anxiety meds only bring what you will need and have the labels.. I take 1 HBP prescription and a few vitamins everyday, so I bring the exact number I will need for the trip in 1 sandwich bag. I put the bag in my carryon. I do take a picture of my prescription label in hopes that will help if I get questioned, but that has never happened.
